Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Child Support or not

Are there abandonment laws in PA? I have gotten several different answers to this question. And if so how long must the father not have contact with or provide any support for the child? If my daugther's father's rights were terminated due to abandonment would this mean he would not have to pay child support?

I am not remarried or anything of that nature.

Re: Child Support or not

First contact and support are 2 different issues.

The only way to legally get out of child support is if the person who would have to pay support has their parental rights terminated.

Parental rights can be terminated either voluntarily or involuntarily. However, parental rights do not get terminated unless there is an adoption. That is a parent can not unilaterally terminate their parental rights.

If you have any further questions feel free to contact me. The initial consultation is free.
