child support arrears

i owe about 6000 in arears and can not afford to pay them all at once and i want it off my credit report.. It is not owed to the mother it is a welfair case. So is there any way that this can be setteled for less?

You asked about reducing child support arrears.

You question doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you refer to welfare case. But, it doesn't matter as there is no possible way to reduce arrears on child support. There are a number of ways for either the state or the parent to collect and child support is one of the highest ranking debts there is.

If you need to have future child support reduced then you may seek a reduction through the courts. But as to arrears you must pay those to remove them from collectable debts.
