Common law marriage

My girlfriend and I have been living together for 1.5 years we leaved in Colorado , Texas and now Pennsylvania we own a house in Pennsylvania together and I own a house in Texas we want to get common law married cause we love each other and also for the health benefits because i work and she doesnt. We plan on getting a marriage license later and doing it the right way later. My quesion is what do we need to get common law married she has Pennsylvania drivers license and I have a Texas drivers license. Does Pennsylavannia accept common law if not what about Texas also will this affect us later when we do get a marrige licence and ceremony.

You can no longer get a common law marriage in Pennsylvania. Why wait on doing it the only way you can in Pennsylvania? As for Texas I have no idea if they still have common law marriage but there is no good reason to not go the official route. Especially since your employer may not recognize a common law marriage without a court fight.

No. There is no longer Common Law marriage in PA.

You asked about common law marriage.

My colleagues are correct that PA will not recognize new common law unions. But the state has a new law called the self-uniting marriage. Go to the clerk's office (prothonotary), fill out the form pay the fee, turn in the form, walk backwards around each other three times and you're married.

Just kidding about the next to last part, but might be fun to do anyway.
