Custody matter

I received a court order for a custody hearing and I don't understand what it means. Could you PLEASE help me?

Its an order for you to show up and explain why the court should not sign an order granting the other parties petition.

First, do plan on going. Otherwise the court will rule in the other party's favor.

Second, it would be a good idea to gather up the hearing notice and the other papers and take them to an attorney.

I'll guess that the opposing party has one. So it would be best if you have one. There should have been a notice to defend rights on the petition on that you can find the address and phone number legal services organization in your area. If they can't help you you can call you local bar association or check here to find a local attorney.
