Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Defend myself?

My 16 year old step daughter has recently begun to use the threat of reporting me for child abuse when I don't do everything she wants. I feel like I'm being blackmailed. I've been involved with her and her mom for about 7 years, and NO abuse has ever taken place. I have lectured and yelled at her about things over the years, but never got physical. Her mother backs me up. Even though nothing has happened, I'm concerned with her threats. How do I defend myself? If she would make such an allegation what can I do? I don't want my reputation ruined by charges that really don't have any merit.

Re: Defend myself?

You are being blackmailed. That said Child & Youth will have to investigate any complaint she makes.

Such an investigate would be fairly confidential. A lot depends on the Children & Youth case worker and how much she believes your step daughter.

All Children & youth investigations must be completed in 60 days. If they can not find any evidence then they have to issue a finding of unfounded.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. The initial consultation is free.
