It won't cost anything. In Pennsylvania there is no such thing as a legal separation.

That said you can establish a date of separation it requires that you cease cohabiting with your spouse and making it clear to your spouse you believe the marriage is irretrievably broken. You don't necessarily need to have separate residences.
