Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Divorce

In Pa, a spouse tries to file for divorce and the other spouse threatens to kill herself if he leaves. She has actually attempted to kill herself before. What does he do, what can he legally do?

Re: Divorce

You asked about divorce and responsibility for the other party.

A party making a threat with regard to a divorce should be taken seriously and should be reported to the proper authorities. This could include seeking a civil (involuntary) commitment.

It probably should not deter one from seeking a divorce but such threats could dramatically alter the playing field for disputed divorce litigation.

You must speak with an attorney about this situation as soon as possible.

Roger

Re: Divorce

If she is a danger to herself or others you could seek an involuntary commitment.

How did you try to file for divorce? Either you filed or did not file. Do you have an attorney? If not might be a plan to get one. This doesn't sound like its going to be a simple divorce.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me, the initial consultation is free.
