Is money received in a divorce settlement taxed.

I am going to settle without going through court and would like to know if my $30,000.00

Re: divorce settlement

You asked if money recieved in a divorce settelment is taxed.

This is a difficult question to answer without knowing more about the situation. Generally divorce settlements are a division of assets that have already been taxed. But there are many circumstances where tax would need to be paid on such a settlement.

I strongly urge you to have the proposed agreement reviewed by an attorney who can explicitly advise you in your particular situation.
