engagement separation
i was engaged to be married and then we got the licnese and then he called it off he told me to keep the rings can he take me to court to get them back

The rings are a conditional gift that is they're yours once you're married. However, because he said you could keep them that makes them a non-conditional gift. Of course I suspect there were not any witnesses when he said you could keep them.
