my exwife wants to take my daughter out of the country does she have to tell me when and where she is going.we have joint custody

Initially, if your daughter is a minor and does not yet have a valid passport, she will not be able to get one until you sign off on the application. If driving over into Canada, your ex will at least need a notarized letter from you saying it's OK. If your daughter is 18 or older, of course, she can get her own passport without notice to you. For that matter, if your daughter of of majority, there's no "custody" proceedings any longer!

Often, custody agreements/court orders include provisions about travel with children, including how much notice must be given to the other parent. If there is a written custody agreement, read it: your answer might already be in there. Otherwise, check the court order. Typically, one parent does tell the other about travel with the children, especially international travel. It's just good for communication anyway. Best of luck to you.
