Father wants to give up his rights to our child
My husband and I are going to begin our divorce. We have decided to use an on-line service. He wants to give up his rights to our daughter. Will that be included in the divorce or is there something additional we will need to do?

Re: Father wants to give up his rights to our child
A termination of parental rights is not part of any divorce matter. It is a separate and specific action taken in a different court. Parties may not contract away the right to child support, and your agreement cannot make that an enforcable provision to be entered with the divorce decree.
I have no real knowledge of online divorces and cannot advise you as to what options they provide. Like all lawyers, I prefer for people to obtain advice directly related to their own situations, but, while unable to recommend them, do understand the attractiveness of the low cost options.
