Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Father-Less

My sons father is married but wants no part of my sons life, he has taken no part in supporting him in any way, If I go for child support, do I have to let this man have visitation rights since he is 4-5 hours away from me? or can we come to an understanding, without that?

Re: Father-Less

You certainly can proceed to collect child support. However, child support has nothing to do with visitation. As a practical matter it is possible that the father may request visitation rights. However, that should not deter you from asking for child support. If you are married and want your current husband to adopt, you might want to make a deal with the father. In return for not pursuing support he is to consent to the adoption. If you need the support do not worry about visitation. The father can ask even if he does not pay support. Chances are he will not ask if his attitude remains the same as you describe.
