Giving up rights

My husband has a 5 yr old son that he has not seen since he was 12 days old. His ex has asked him several times to sign over his parental rights and we've thought about it. If he does so, will he still have to pay child support since she asked him to? How does that work?

He can't just give up his parental rights. His ex's husband must be ready to adopt the child.
