Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania
Can a grandparent get custody of grandchild
My daughter had a baby at 17. They have lived with us for 5 years, we've fed, clothed and kept a roof over them with no charge. My daughter worked some time, a month here, maybe 2 or 3 months there. We've claimed her on income tax all 5 years. We signed for her to get a car, as she promised to pay for it. She's had many relationships, some last 2-3 months. My granddaughter starts kindergarten this year. My daughter has been dating this guy for 1 month. She wants to take her and move 2000 miles away. I worry for the stability of the child. We are all she has known for 5 years, the father is not in her life, no one but us has ever watched her when her mother went to work or out. As for the car, we're stuck because its in our name and if she moves she won't pay for it. Just to let you know how responsible my daughter is, I have a certified letter here for her, she sent the child to preschool, and still owes $500. There are bills here for her taxes that she hasn't paid. Do we have a chance to get custody of our granddaughter or is there anything else we can do so she can't take the child out of state?

Re: Can a grandparent get custody of grandchild
Pennsylvania does recognize grandparents' rights. The fact that the child has lived with you for five years is in your favor and may give you the standing to pursue this. You need to consult an attorney in your area to assist you with this matter.
