Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Guardianship of minor

I have an 8 yr old son. His father is recently deceased and he and I were never married, but my son has lived with me since birth. My son has been named benf. for a particular death gratuity. However the issuing agency requires a legal guardian to be appointed if state statutes mandate it. Do I have to petition the court inPA for legal guardianship of my son or is it my natural role as his mother?

Re: Guardianship of minor

You asked about legal guardian.

Either a natural or adoptive parent is by nature of the relationship a legal guardian of their minor child.

Regards,

Roger
