Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania
My husband burned down my house and the insurance won't pay.
My sister's husband was convicted of arson for burning down their house. He was court ordered not to be on the property at the time. The house was in my sister's name only but his name was on the insurance policy as well as her's. The insurance paid the mortgage off but refuses to pay contents.
He is in jail won't sign divorce papers. Insurance won't pay and she is told not to file for bankruptsy. She is carrying the debt of a double income marriage and the harassment and from creditors as well as the emotional stress caused to her and her son are overwhelming and she is stuck in the middle seeminfly hitting brick walls on every avenue. She has an attorney for the divorce (doing nothing) she has talked to a bank. att. (doing nothing) and to an att. over the ins. co. (doing nothing) all the while debt is piling onto debt and she has no idea where to go for help to get things moving. this fire occured on March 23,2005 and she is nowhere closer to closure now. Nothing is settled or even appearing like it will be settled. All the while he is in jail with at least the comfort of knowing he will be fed and warm. He has even refused to pay $25 a month support to statr when he gets out!!! It is a travesty of justice and she needs help!

Re: My husband burned down my house and the insurance won't pay.
Well if the husband's name was on the insurance I am suprised they paid anything. Remember insurance is for unforeseen things. Burning down your a house you insured doesn't meet that test.
How does your sister feel about all this?
As long as she is represented by a lawyer she has to get that lawyer to do what needs to be done or SHE has to go replace him.
There's lots to been done but specifically what does SHE want?
