Legal responsiblliy

My wife is presently in a mental institution and has been diagnosed with a severe mental disorder.

Do I as her husband have more of a legal right to her then her family has?

Unless she has designated someone else as her health care power of attorney you are next of kin and have te right to information regarding treatment.
