Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

I am legally separated from my wife. The car she drives is in my name and I pay the car insurance. She does not live in our house and does not work. How do I transfer the car into her name?

Is the car paid for? If so, you simply sign over the title to her. However, before she takes it to the DMV, she would need to get proof of insurance and fill out a new title application. She would then take proof of insurance, the title and title application to the DMV. She should also turn in the existing license plate as the DMV will issue her a new one upon issuance of the new title.

If the car is not paid for its going to be a problem as the lender will not release you from the lien. If she wants the car and could get a loan or funds to pay off the car, then you, your wife and the lender can do a three-conversation such that once the car is paid off, the title could be issued to your wife perhaps. However, getting a car loan is going to be difficult if your wife does not work.
