Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Liable for husband who files bankruptcy after filing for divorce?

A friend of mine has been in divorce proceedings with her husband for over a year and a half now. She has already had problems with the courts: after he moved to OK, had a baby with another woman, & took a lower paying job (cost of living is much less there as well), they ruled in his favor to lower her spousal support, even though he didn't actually show up for court & just phoned the judge after the hearing to turn over the initial decision that was in her favor!

Today she received a text from him on her mobile stating that he is now planning on filing for bankruptcy & threatened her that she will be liable for paying his bills. Is this really legit if he's doing it so long after the divorce proceedings have already been initiated, though, or is he just playing mind games?

She can only be held liable for bills she contracted for. If the divorce is final or there has been equitable distribution then there's a possibility of her not being liable.

Fact is your friend is the one who should contact an attorney if she doesn't already have one.

If your friend has any questions she should feel free to contact me the initial consultation is free.
