Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Long story short (sort of). My son recently moved in with her mother who was just released from jail, who now lives with her parents about a month ago. Her grandparents have now filed for child support from me, the boys father. Is this really a thing? Can a grandparent literally bypass the mother's responsibility and custody and get child support just because they are letting them stay at their home? Wouldn't the mother of the child have to file for child support? All parents/grandparents involved are adults.

What does the custody order say? Have the grandparents filed for custody? There is so much information that goes into who get custody and or support that I don't have. That said you need to get custody cleaned up so that the support issues can be address.
