A marital separation agreement IF properly drafted can be a binding contract between the parties that can be enforced in court.
Unless there is an active case involving the ageement in PA it is not normally filed with the court.

It enforceable as a contract.
It should NOT have the word separation in the title. Some courts have held such agreements are void if the parties reconcile.
All notarizing shows is that the person signing the document is who the say they are.
There's lots of other little gotchas that you need to look out for.
