Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Do I need my marriage certificate/license?

I have been separated from my wife for 1.5 years. I have gotten involved with a remarkable woman and would like to marry her in the near future. Naturally, I will need a divorce from my wife. Someone, who has gone through this already, told me that I will need my marriage license from my first marriage. Is this true and, if so, why? The problem is my wife tore it up a while ago. If one would be required (and again, I ask why?) where would I go to have it replaced? I was living and was married in New Jersey back then. Any info would help. Thank you.

Yes, You will need to have the marriage certificate to attach to the divorce complaint when you file it. You will need to go to the county seat where you were married and obtain a court certified copy of it. Those are the PA Rules.
