Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Am I Really Married?

I was divorced in 1975 in MI but moved to PA in 1976 and remarried in 1977. However, for fear my ex would locate me, I used an ''assumed'' last name when I moved to PA and used it when I married in 1977. Was I ''really'' married and what should I do, if anything, to clear this up? My husband now, which isn't the same one I married in 1977, doesn't know about this. He and I were married in CA. Thank you.

Re: Am I Really Married?

You were really married. Your problem is with the state vital statistics records and, in our current age of heightened security, with social security identity numbers. I believe it would be worthwhile for you to investigate your status with these agencies and, if necessary, correct the records to avoid any problems in the future.
