mortgage in one person's name, can the other be held responsible
My sister is going through a divorce. Her stb ex put the mortgage in her name. She left the home and he agreed to remain in the house. He left the house after a few months and got another place. She can't afford to pay for the costs of the house since she lost her job due to actions of the ex husband. the house has to be forclosed on and there are back bill during the time no one lived in the house. Can the husband be held financially responsible for any of the costs of the house? his finacial standing is unaffected he spends money freely and she can't offord to live on her own. She has to file for bankruptsy. What are the legal avenues she has if any? Thank you for your time anc concideration on this matter.

Re: mortgage in one person's name, can the other be held responsible
The are both responsible for the mortgage if neither live there. There is a procedure to follow as part of the divorce that a party can seek a court order to stop/prevent foreclosure.
