when someone moves out of your house and leaves personal property how long do you have to keep it before throwing it out

There is no set time under Pennsylvania law that I'm aware of -- unless the former resident was a rent-paying tenant. In that case, the lease may contain language about property that is not removed.

I suggest that you send a letter by both regular and certified mail to your former resident, informing him/her that you will be putting their belongings on the curb for trash pickup if not retrieved by a certain date. If he/she doesn't respond, at least you tried in case he/she later tries to sue you somehow. Best of luck to you.
