Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

parental responsibility

I have a very disobediant child who will be turning 18 soon. He barely attends school and has drug issues and problems with the law. My question is...how long am I legally responsible for him. If he is 19 and still ''barely'' going to school (3 days a week) am I still responsible? I have tried for years to get him straight but he is considered ODD (opposition defiance disorder) by his school councelor. When does this nightmare end?

Re: parental responsibility

In Pennsylvania a child is emancipated by age when he turns 18 or graduates high school.

Seeing as he is over 16 and does not seem to have any plans on graduating why does he go to school at all?

I assuming you are paying child support and the child lives with your ex. In that case his habitual truancy is an issue and could cause problems for the custodial parent.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me the initial consultation is free.
