Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Paternity Paper

I have a question that I don't know if anyone can answer. My girlfriend has an 11 month old daugther. We have dated off and on over the past couple years. She thought her daugther was her ex's. Now that she is older we are certain by looks that she is mine.

I don't know how to say this in a proper way but my girlfriend had been taken advantage of by her ex (who she thought was the father).

At the time she thought he was the father she had to get on assistance programs including cash, food and medical. She had health problems and also complications of the pregnancy. She is since doing better and withdrew from all programs a couple months ago.

I want to sign paternity papers and we want to get married. However, we are not by any means well off as I am a college student and so is she. We both have jobs in addition but are not great paying (thus trying to get a good education and careers).

Would I have to pay back support since she never filed for support? I was told the state could make me go back and pay back the cash she received and pay her medical bills during pregnancy. Is this true? I would never be abel to pay for these things.

Re: Paternity Paper

You asked about paternity.

You need to speak with an attorney with expertise in family law.

There are a number of options for you to pursue. Some may involve greater repercussions than others. An attorney completely familiar with this may be able to offer more particular guidance.

Regards,

Roger
