Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania
pfa disinterested third party
I have been named as the only person permitted to retrieve my brother's possessions from his house by his girlfriend in a PFA. I live 130 miles away and need to arrange to go on a weekday because I need to go to court and sign for his guns. She is refusing to arrange a weekday meeting demanding that I come up on a weekend so that she does not have to take time from work. That would require me to drive a total of 520 miles to facilitate her. Can she do this or do I have any recourse?

Re: pfa disinterested third party
You asked about retrieving possessions in a PFA matter.
The girlfriend chose you, not the other way around. You should have someone explain the situation to her, preferably her attorney, so that she understands this needs to happen during court hours and to the convenience of you and the courts.
It is preferable that she is not there at all when the exchange takes place. She should have a proxy there who can call her to ask about any questioned possessions that are collected. Usually this is a friend, neighbor, family member or even someone from the attorney's office. Occasionally, a police officer or representative from a local women's shelter can be coaxed to do this.
Negotiate this through her attorney's office. If she is not represented then you need to explain that she _may_ be liable for contempt and your legal fees if a judge needs settle this.
