Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Removing ex From credit

Is there a way when you get a divorce to get your ex off your credit report? He has a car that the loan is in both of our names, but is only his. Does that go in the paper work for a divorce? How do I get off of it?

Thank you.

Re: Removing ex From credit

Unfortunately, divorce does not automatically sever you from your spouse's credit history. Your credit history is a result of individual contracts you have made with various lenders or installment sellers. It has little to do with the institution of marriage.

If you are particularly concerned with a joint obligation continuing after the divorce is settled and granted, you could make a point of addressing this in your settlement agreement -from a minimum of clearly assigning your spouse the duty of payment of this joint obligation to perhaps selling the vehicle and satisfying the loan prior to divorce.

Similarly, if you are particularly concerned about your credit history, it would be wise to obtain a credit report prior to your settlement to be certain you are completely aware of your current financial credit situation.
