Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Is he still responsible for supporting his child?

When I first told him of my pregnancy, he abandoned us. I have raised our son as a single parent and have never filed for child support. Three years ago our paths crossed again and he has been in our lives on a regular basis for the past three years. We live in different states, but have visited back and forth, emailed and kept in phone contact. He has built a relationship with his son over the past three years. He is now leaving again to re-marry and has implied that he will no longer be in contact with us, not even our son. Although he is now on Social Security disability, he still makes nearly twice the money I make and I am working 10-12 hours a day just so our son and I can survive. Our son is still a minor and he is the biological father. Does he still have a responsibility? Can I pursuit child support from him?

Re: Is he still responsible for supporting his child?

Yes, your child's father is responsible to pay child support. The court will take his income into account and your income into account. If you can't afford a lawyer, contact legal aid in your area and file a paternity. He would not need to visit with the child if he does not want.
