Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania
What are my rights as an adult
I have been an adult for two years now. Since then, my dad still consistantly opens and reads all of my mail. He also refuses to allow me to handle my taxes each year. Every year I somehow do not receive any money back. When I confront him he tells me that since I live in his house I am considered a dependent, and he can do whatever he wants. Is this true? Since I live at home, do I not have the same rights as an adult living on their own?

You do realize I'm not Ann Landers right?
Grow a pair. Tell your father that he may not open your mail or do your taxes. Get a post office box if you must.
You could also remind him that it is a Federal felony to open mail addressed to another person. Of course sending dad to prison would be a sure way to piss him off.
It doesn't matter that you live with him. As long as you let him push you around he will.
Further, what happens to the tax return? If you don't sign it that means he does. If he's forging your signature or even signing as your representative without an agreement to be so designated he is way over the line. Whether you are a dependent or not is not something that can be determined from the information you provided.
If you haven't recieved your tax forms yet (because dad got them) ask your employer for replacements right away. Then go ahead and do your own taxes (forms are available at the post office or library). And have the return sent to the post office box that you are going to run out and rent (they are cheap).
Situation solved.
Damn I'm good.
