In Pennsylvania, child support is calculated based upon support guidelines. These guidelines provide a formula to determine the amount of support the non-custodial parent must pay. In addition to the formula, there are deviations to the formula which will affect the amount of the support obligation. Wage attachments can be processed through your county domestic relations office. If you don't avail yourself of an attorney, you may agree upon a support amount which is less than you are entitled to because of a lack of understanding as to the operation of the support guidelines. Your best bet is to invest some money to obtain the advice of an attorney.

I agree with the previous response--getting an attorney is always the best bet. If you can't afford to hire an attorney, you may be able to find a qualified attorney who will agree to consult with you on an hourly basis. Be organized with your financial information and list of questions so you get the most out of your time. It will be worth your $100-$300 for the consultation. Be sure to pick someone whose practice is at least 50% family law. In the alternative, check with your local courthouse to see if there's free help available so that you can calculate the child support correctly and get the wage garnishment put in place. Good luck!
