Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

does my son have t o give up his physical or legal rights

my son's girlfriend is pregnant and underage, my son just turned 18. His girlfriends parents want my son to give them ''physical custody'' so that they can carry health insurance on their grandchild. Supposedly she (the girlfriend) didn't qualify for any type of ''medicaid'' because her parents made too much money.

Being that she is underage she is going to be giving her parents ''custodial rights'' until she is 18. Then (per his girlfriend) they will sign custody rights back over to her.

Is this true that for the grandparents of this baby, if they have custody from the mother (their daughter), which don't forget is underage....Is it true that my son has to turn any kind of custody over to them in order for them to carry health insuranced on the baby.

I am not financially secure enough to seek legal help, hence this letter that i am sending you. My son wants to be a part of his daughters life. I just need to know these 2 questions that are presented in this letter.

My son wants the best for his daughter, and would never want to deny her medical coverage, however, he feels that his girlfriends parents proposals are somewhat bogus.

Time is growing very short. PLEASE ADVISE ASAP

No, he doesn't have to give up legal rights. However, I've seen such arrangements go horribly wrong.

Without more facts it would be hard to determine what needs to be done.

Remember a verbal agreement is generally trumped by a written agreement. If your son doesn't get his rights spelled out in writing he will definitely find himself behind the legal 8 ball.
