Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Spouse's signature on tax return

Due to marital problems, my spouse has refused to sign our joint tax returns which were prepared by a CPA firm. We elected to have the federal & state returns submitted electronically. The local return needs to be signed & mailed & the accounting firm requires our signatures before they will submit the other returns electronically. Is there a way to bypass his signatures so that the returns can be submitted in a timely manner?

Re: Spouse's signature on tax return

No, filing of a joint return requires both taxpayers to sign the return.

Now to file the return timely generally means by April 15th. The April 15th is a hard deadline if you owe money to either the Federal government or to Pennsylvania or the local tax authority. After that date passes the will start assessing penalties and interest.

Given that April 15th is over a month away, why does he refuse to sign?
