Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Unmarried parents joint custody

The father of my child and I are no longer together. We have never been married. His name is on the birth certificate. We both want joint custody. What do I have to do to make this legal? Do we need to do anything? We are getting along very well, and agree on how to raise our daughter. Do we need a lawyer? Do we need to go to court? How do I prove we have had joint custody from the beginning if a situation arises in the future?

You need to ask the court to approve you custody agreement.

Because this is a long lived agreement its probably best to have an attorney draft it so that nothing is overlooked and the judge will sign the order.

As along as this is a mutual agreement you're looking at something that should be too costly. There will be the filling fee and a few hours of work by the attorney.
