Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

auto mechanic holding my car for unauthorized work unrelated to original problem

i took my car to a mechanic to have a new transmission put in, my warranty company paid 1000.00 and i paid my deductible and tax. i got the car back with the same problem and returned it to be fixed again and i was told it needed a 200.00 motor mount in order for the new transmission to work, so i gave the mechanic a check for 200.00 and picked the car up. again it was not fixed, i stopped payment on the check and called the mechanic,by that time the car would not run at all and he said he would tow the car to his shop to look at it. he now has the car claiming that it needed front axles for the "new" transmission to work and he fixed it already and wants 300.00 more, that makes a total of 500.00 and then he will return my car. the work he did on my car last was not authorized by me first and this mechanic already received a total of 1200.00. what can i do about this legally? can i call the local police to help me get my car back?

Although filing a law suit is possible, I would suggest a more practical solution. Try contacting your warranty company. Tell them your car was not properly repaired, and advise them of the mechanic's diagnosis. Insist that the warranty company cover the new charges under the old claim so that you will not be responsible for any new deductible. Hopefully that strategy will be successful. Please contact me if you need any further assistance.
