car accident

i was receiving public assist. @ the time of my car accident and still do. i was a passenger in a cab and was hit from the rear by another driver. will there be a lien from DPW on my case, like monies i will have to give them from my case? can you tell me how that works.

DPW will assert a lien for the medical expenses paid on your behalf. It will most likely be paid out of teh proceeds of any settlement. This lien is negotiable, so you should certainly have an attorney assist you through this process. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact me.

Sure, it's a little complicated, and we should talk more about it over the phone, but your medical providers/payors will have a lien on the money you recover. However, your attorney factors that into the money he asks for from the insurance companies and the other driver, so that you don't end up paying it out of what you recover. The other great factors you have going for you is the rear-end collision (liability on other driver), and the fact that you were in a cab, which means that you are automatically full tort (a good thing).
