civil court
Are you required by law to appear in court, even if your attorney is going to do all of your speaking for you? Does this change depending on this various type of cases?

Re: civil court
In criminal court you are required to appear and you generally have to sign a subpoena each time the court schedules a hearing. In Civil Court you do not have to appear unless you are a party and were served with a Notice to Attend or a Subpoena. There are situations where you may not want to appear, especially when you are a defendant in a civil case and where the plaintiff does not have sufficient evidence to prove his or her case.
