Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

How can I collect a debt (verbal contract)?

I allowed my roommate to purchase a bed in my name, with her verbal promise to give me the money for it within one or two months. She has not given me anything toward it, and is now refusing to do so.

I have nothing in writing from her, but I do have a receipt for the bed. I also have a copy of a letter I sent to her requesting she start giving me payments.

What are my options? Can I collect this money?

Re: How can I collect a debt (verbal contract)?

drive to the local district justice. get a civil complaint form. type in the obvious answers and fill in the obvious boxes. describe the breach of contract to pay/ suit to recover prinicipal and any interest. if your roomie was below the age of majority, sue the parents also. sue them anyhow. have the constable serve all the defendants. get a judgment. watch the appeal period elapse. send out interrogatories in aid of execution.

learn that the list of the roomie/defendant includes a bed worth roughly the money lent out. keep the bed in satisfaction of the debt.

sorry, but

good luck
