Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

can a defendant in a civil case just arbitrarily join another person as a defendant in the case by sending a writ to join additional defendant? It was a civil matter before a district justice. The defendant was found guilty. He appealed the verdict in the common pleas court. One month later, I get a writ to join additional defendant- sent by his (the original defendant)lawyer. Not by the plaintiff, but by the defendant! Plus if they legally CAN do that- I want to file something stating I do not agree to be joined- but what paperwork/language would I use?

Yes they can.

The defendant was not found guilty as it was a civil matter he was found liable.

What you need to do is get a lawyer. The other guy has one it's time for you to get one.
