Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania
I've been a defendant in a civil suit these past 5 years and after a recent deposition I received a bill from my attorney for $608 which he said was my share of the deposition fees, but I later found out it was for copies of the deposition which he requested; for what purpose I have no idea because altho' we have discussed a countersuit, he has made it clear he does not intend to be the attorney doing it. is this fee really my responsibility even tho' I did not authorize his getting them. if I chose to countersue I know these will be necessary for the new attorney and then I'll have to pay for them all over again. and if I do have to pay for them as part of his legal fees can paying him $100 a month suffice legally. I'm 75 and live on Social Security. .Last month I paid him $500 (his fee for going to the depositon, but money doesn't come in as rapidly as he expects it to go out). thank you

First, you have an attorney and it is not ethical for me to be second-guessing your attorney. You should be asking him why he needed a copy of your deposition. There can be many reasons why the deposition was requested that relate to your defense. They are part of your file. If you pay for them, I do not see wht the attorney will not provide your new attorney a copy for the civil suit. Perhaps he will charge you a small fee for copying - it. How long is it? As for payig him, again, talk to your attorney about a payment plan. Most attorneys understand and will try to wrok with you. It is exepensive to sue clients and no attorney really wants to do that.
