Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

dog bite

My husband was attacked and bitten in the face on tuesday july 1 by a german shepard. He required 12 stitches in the mouth and 36 on the outside also an additional 5 on the other side of his face. he has nerve damage on the left side.

The owner of the dog is an employee of the richfield road apartments, where he is the maintinance man. The incident happened on sansom street, across the street from where we live. Two weeks prior to this the dog was cited for biting a child but it did not requirer stitches. I am not sure if the dog was required to wear a muzzle or not. My husband will require further treatment. we do not have insurance. The owner of the dog lives in an apartment. Is there anything I can do?

Re: dog bite

That sounds like a horrible injury.

You should contact an attorney right away. Lawyers specializing in injuries, like our firm, are happy to consult, with no cost or obligation. Feel free to give me a call, we're just a couple blocks north of Sansom & 20th.

I've tried and won a dog bite case. The key thing is to show the owner knew that the dog was dangerous. It sure sounds like that's true here, with the prior attack. It doesn't matter that the previous victim was lucky and didn't need stitches.

The other important factor is that the dog owner have liability insurance. Your attorney will be able to look for that, and there may well be responsibility on the apartment building, since the owner was their employee.
