Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

Dog stolen by ex-boyfriend

My ex-boyfriend bought a dog for me...that we both fell in love with. However I spent the majority of the money needed to take him to the Vet. as well as his upkeep. He took the dog from me and says that he is keeping him. I have documentation of the dog being registered to me as well as Vet receipts. Can I sue him for my property/family member?

Sure. If you have proof of ownership. File a complaint in the District court where your ex lives or where you lived together

Seems like a slam dunk but I'm not sure if the Magisterial District Judge would want to get involved in a dog custody dispute. He may just order the guy to pay for the cost, shots, registration, etc. of the dog or award you damages and tell the guy that he has to pay the money or give the dog back. Especially with disputes that are likely to seem minor to a judge, a lot depends on the judge. This is one of those cases where you have a better shot at getting the puppy back if the MDJ is not an attorney.
