Can a drug informant be arrested for committing other crimes, like beating a person on private property? Can the police legally let them off the hook for it?

Thank you for your question,
Generally, a confidential informant is granted immunity from prosecution only with respect to any crimes that he necessarily must commit in order to obtain the information he was hired to obtain.
If the confidential informant commits crimes along the way which were not necessary in obtaining the information he was hired to obtain, then he will have no immunity from prosecution with respect to those crimes.
