Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

former employer refuses to give paycheck

I am a college student from Pennslyvania. I worked briefly as a waitress during the last weeks of the last semester. I quit after two weeks and the owner is refusing to pay me. How can I get my paycheck? Should I contact a lawyer?

You should write a letter demanding payment under the PA Wage Act. Inform the employer that if he does not pay that you will obtain counsel who can collect fees from the owener and 25% penalty damages.

I agree with the previous reply. You should advise your former employer that you consulted with a lawyer, who advised you that the Pa. Wage Payment Act requires prompt payment of all wages. The employer's failure to make wage payments subjects him/her/it to attorney's fees and a penalty, which I believe is 2 times the wages. If that doesn't pry-out the wages, contact the Bar Association in the County where the employer is located for a referral to an attorney. Good luck!!
