with holding personal property

i moved in with a frined without any lind of lease or arrangement, i stayed with her for approx 2 wks, we both agreed that we were not suitable for living together, i owe her 500.00 and have agreed to pay her, but she is holding my clothes and personal belongings for rent. what can i do??

The legal term for what your roommate is doing is called distraint.

First you should politely ask for you things back in writing. If that doesn't work then you need to write her a letter that if your things are not returned by a given date you will take her to the district magistrate.

If she doesn't return your things go to the district magistrate and file suit.
