liens on property

A party owes money- $15,000. He was sued in court but never secured an attorney and ignored the compaint. He was sent a notice saying that default judgment had been entered against him. Question- Is a lien thereby placed on his real estate. He owns his house jointly with his wife and owns his own business.

Re: liens on property

In PA, a judgment against an individual cannot result in a lien being placed on marital property. If the lien is placed on property, you must file papers with the court to have it removed. As to your business, unless it is marital property, a lien can generally be placed on it, unless it is a corporation. In any event, you should consult an attorney to be sure of, and protect your rights
