Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

misdemeanor

My son broke a light with a baseball bat on the neighbors garage and the neighbor is now suing us for $700. Why can we not just replace the light fixture and settle it this way. Isn't this an enormous amount for this problem?

An injured party has the duty to midagate damages. If replacing the light bulb is the extent of damage, simply repacing the bulbs is the exttent of his injury. He sould get no more.
