mother was hit by a car and killed

On jan 30, 1996 my mother was hit by a car, she died two hours later. my fathre at the time said he had a lawyer who was going to handle the lawsuit. he now says he has no idea what i am talking about. i know there is know court record of it. But if it did settle out of court would htere be a record of it and were would it be? I do belive he sued and is keeping it from me

I'm sorry to hear about your mother and your father.

The starting point is to go to the Register of Wills in the county where your mother lived, and ask if anyone had taken out letters of administration (or if she had a will, letters testamentary). They can look it up by her name and date of death. The file is a public record; it could show the attorney for the estate, and if there was a recovery, there should be a copy of the state inheritance tax return.
