Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

personal belongings

I broke up with my boyfriend. He has alot of my personal belongings in his house and also a rented storage space in his name alone. He refuses to give them back to me. What are my rights and how do I get those things back without spending alot of money on legal proceedings? He is not willing to work this out.

Re: personal belongings

You asked about an ex-boyfreind that refuses to return belongings.

You can file a complaint with the police department for theft. Refusing to return items is theft by conversion. Some police departments will be much more cooperative than others. You could also file a private criminal complaint if the police refuse to take the complaint on their own.

You MUST NOT threaten to file criminal charges as that is a crime in itself. Either file the charges or hire an attorney to sue in civil court for return of the goods (replevin).

You should work on an item by item description of everything that is in his possession.

If in doubt, call a lawyer.

Bright side, at least you are out of that relationship with the weenie.

Regards,

Roger
